Held at Hollygrove on Dixie Highway in Holly, the festival has become a major destination for tourists across Michigan, the U.S., and even abroad. Attendance typically reaches around 250,000 each year, with local media reporting a peak of 269,464 visitors in 2024.

A Michigan Festival Tradition Since 1979

For decades, the Michigan Renaissance Festival has maintained a strong safety record. Most incidents have been minor, such as small vehicle accidents, minor assaults involving armor or props, and occasional theft of festival items. The only notable health concern in recent years was a single hepatitis A exposure in 2024. Overall, serious injuries, kidnappings, and murders have not been reported, making the festival a safe environment for families and visitors of all ages.

The Ren Fest Missing Person Case

However, this past weekend, a visit to the festival took a concerning turn. Jacob Tyler Angeles, 22, was reported missing by family members after being last seen on the festival grounds at 11 a.m. Witnesses reported that he did not return home, and his phone either died or was shut off at 10:30 p.m. that night. Angeles was expected to report to work at 3 a.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2025, but his employer noted he was a “no call, no show.”

Michigan Police Request Public’s Help

Authorities at the Rockwood Police Department are urging Michiganders and visitors in the Holly area to remain vigilant. Angeles drives a 2006 silver Jeep Commander. A photo and more details are available on the department’s Facebook page. While the festival continues to be a safe and celebrated event, this missing person case is a rare exception, reminding attendees to stay aware of their surroundings.
