Maybe you work north of flint or travel north for the weekend. It's that time of year - construction season. Orange cones will be popping up all over the roadways.Yesterday two big projects began. Both will likely create some headaches in Saginaw and Bay counties. MDOT is putting $70 million into I-75 and Zilwaukee Bridge improvements - two separate projects that crews will be working on simultaneously.

Four miles of I-75 will be reconstructed and closed off from drivers starting at Janes Road, all the way to the north junction of I-675. Drivers will be re-directed to Wadsworth Road. Construction on the Zilwaukee Bridge is also underway. During the first phase of this project, the southbound portion of the bridge will be closed.

Drivers traveling in that direction will be detoured to I-675 as crews work to replace bearings, do bridge deck overlays, barrier repairs and electrical work.

The Zilwaukee Bridge project is expected to last through January 2015. Drivers are asked to be patient. Good luck and happy motoring.
