Portable Generators Being Recalled Due to Serious Injuries
I've always wanted to own a generator just in case my wife and I lose power due to a major storm in the Greater Lansing area.
About several years ago, we had a major ice storm in Michigan that knocked out power to thousands of homes all across Michigan, and yes I was part of that mess.
My wife and I didn't have our power restored for about a week and a half. It was one of the worst ice storms Michigan had ever seen.
The one thing that could have helped us out during that ice storm was a brand new generator. It's a gasoline power machine that supplies electricity directly to parts of your home that needs it during a power outage.
Speaking of generators, did you read about "Generac" generators? Many have been recalled due to serious injuries.
According to mlive.com:
Generac “has received a total of 37 reports of injuries, 24 resulting in finger amputations and five in finger crushing.” According to an announcement with the commission, “An unlocked handle can pinch consumers’ fingers against the generator frame when the generator is moved, posing finger amputation and crushing hazards.”
Well I certainly don't want to purchase a generator worrying about losing a finger for crying out loud. Hopefully this company will take care of business and make necessary precautions to fix this huge problem.
In the meantime, I am seriously considering a generator sometime in the next couple of weeks, just in case we have a bad winter storm that knocks out power all across Michigan.
