Full disclosure, I am not a life coach and I certainly don't play one on the radio. That being said, I have had my fair share of New Year's resolutions, and like you - I have always had a hard time sticking to them.

That being said, I feel different about resolutions for 2022. I don't feel psyched out to start one, but I don't feel intimidated either. I think the main reason people (me) fail at making positive changes is because we set the bar too high. Regardless if you are trying to lose weight, save money or stop smoking - most of us want immediate results and get frustrated (and give up) when we don't see immediate results.

Since I am not a professional, I looked to Google to find tips on sticking to New Year's Resolutions. Hey, it can't hurt and even better - this is free advice.

According to Very Well Mind, one very important tip is to NOT make multiple resolutions. If your goal is to start exercising more, limit your screen time, and save money - attempting to do all three at once will not prove to be successful. Think about it, don't you need your phone and or computer to help you put together a sensible meal plan and workout routine?

As you will see in the video below you need to be realistic about your goal and or resolution. If you are planning to lose 30 pounds in 30 days - forget about it. Be realistic about your goals. Also, don't tell yourself you are going to the gym every day. I hate to be a buzzkill, but most likely you will not. Giving yourself a goal of working out 2 or 3 times a week is a good place to start.

Another key point in the video below is to not make a last-minute resolution. Think about what you really want to achieve, chances are if you make a rash resolution, it will not work out for you. If you have failed in the past, don't stress - you are not alone. As a matter of fact, check out a list of '16 Excuses for Michiganders to Break Your New Year's Resolution'below.

So what is my resolution for 2022? Honestly, I am not sure. Whatever I decide I can assure you, I will screw it up - but I won't quit quitting.

Here is to an awesome 2022 for you!
