Michigan Man’s Daughter Blames Dad’s QAnon Obsession for Deadly Shootings

The daughter of an Oakland County man who fatally shot his wife and dog on Sunday blames his obsession with QAnon conspiracy theories for his rampage.

Police shot and killed 53-year-old Igor Lanis after he allegedly killed his wife and dog in their Walled Lake home on Sunday (9/11). Another daughter, who was in the home at the time, was shot but not fatally wounded. Police arrived at the scene shortly after 4 am Sunday after the 25-year-old called 911 to report that she'd been shot by her father.

When police arrived they found the man's daughter attempting to crawl to safety. NBC reports that the suspect came to the door wielding a Remington 870 pump action shotgun and began shooting at the deputies who had arrived on the scene. A Walled Lake police officer and an Oakland County Sheriff's deputy returned fire, killing the man.

The man's wife and dog were found dead inside the home, each sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.

Daughter Sites Father's Belief in QAnon Theories

Rebecca Lanis is the man's other daughter who was not home at the time of the attack  She says that over the last few years, her father had been drawn in by conspiracy theories known as QAnon.

She told the Detroit News that her father had begun "consuming crazy ideas online," regarding theories about vaccines and the 2020 presidential election.

“Nobody could talk him out of them,” Rebecca Lanis told the Detroit News.

According to the Washington Post, Rebecca Lanis also took part in a Reddit forum comprised of people whose loved ones have been drawn into QAnon.

“I want the media to call out Q because this is all their fault,” she wrote. “It’s like he got possessed by a demon.”

She went on to say that her father "would get really pissy over the smallest things," and could get consumed by the dangers of modern medicine and 5G towers.
