The dog -- who has been given the name 'Courage' by the Detroit Animal Rescue -- is a shepherd-rottweiler mix. An employee tells WDIV that the hook had completely pierced the dog's skin on the back of his neck.

"It has been in his neck for several weeks. It looks like something out of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre."

The dog's entire medical bill, said to be nearly $10,000, has been covered by the Bissell Foundation. Any additional money raised through donations will go toward prosecuting the individual responsible for torturing the dog.
