Main Retailer Backs Out Of Grand Blanc Project: What Now?
File this under, "Why can't we have nice things too?".
Things haven't just become very quiet in one busy intersection in Grand Blanc, but pretty much dead silent, and residents are asking lots of questions.
Folks driving in the Holly Road and South Saginaw Street area in Grand Blanc had been seeing the buzz of construction for the new strip center and the latest Ross Dress for Less and Five Below locations. These additions have promised to bring more shopping options and convenience to the community to a portion of town that had been lying dormant since the closure years ago of Farmer Jack and Kmart.
Over the past month, construction on the strip center has continued with news businesses being added almost monthly including Starbucks, Smoothie King, Lenscrafters, and soon to arrive, Wing Stop. That's all good, but as for the other side of the property...not so good.
Although construction was well on its way for the Ross and Five Below projects, it all came to a screeching halt. Although many we quick to weigh in on the community pages that often construction such as that can hit "lulls", it looks like this is now more than a pause.
According to sources close to the subject, Ross Dress for Less has pulled out of becoming part of the Grand Blanc community. In addition, rumors are swirling that Five Below may not be far behind, although no official word has been given. No additional information regarding their decision to not move forward was given at this time.
So now what? That's the million-dollar question. How long before another tenant decides to take over where the others left off, or will Grand Blanc usher in winter with a vacant half half-renovated landscape in the heart of town? We will keep you posted.
