Lions and Falcons Fans Stunned in Atlanta

During the first play of the fourth quarter, Lions safety Morice Norris attempted to tackle Nathan Carter, the Falcons’ running back. Norris struck his head on Carter’s knee, snapping his head back violently. With 14:50 on the game clock, Norris was down on the field for several minutes, clearly in distress.

The Hit That Changed the Game

When the ball was snapped for the next play by the Falcons, both teams moved slowly and without focus. Officials from both sides decided to let the clock run out. With more than 14 minutes left, the Falcons still had a chance to make a comeback.

A Moment of Unity on the Field

Instead, players from both sides came together in the middle of the field. These men who had been opponents just minutes ago stood somberly, united, and holding hands. After waiting for more than eight minutes, officials suspended the game with 6:21 left on the clock.

After the game Coach Dan Campbell told reporters that he agreed to end the game with Falcons Coach Raheem Morris, who said it was the right thing to do. Dan continued with what he told his team:

I just told them to pray for him. At that point we didn't know he was breathing. I told them we're just taking knees.
