Fallon’s Detroit Song Has Crowd Singing ‘D-Troit, Motor City!’
On last night’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the host opened the show with a song he wrote as a tribute to Michigan’s most famous city.
Fallon Opens With Detroit Tribute Song
The song highlighted many Michigan favorites and references, including Vernors, pedal pubs, “The 313,” the Detroit Lions, and even quarterback Jared Goff. Fallon got the crowd involved with call-and-response chants of “When I say ‘D,’ you say ‘Troit!’” and “When I say ‘Motor,’ you say ‘City!’” The playful monologue and song set the tone for a night filled with Detroit pride.
A Crowd of 3,000 Brings the Energy
The crowd of 3,000 packed into the Detroit Opera House was electric. Fallon called it one of the best episodes of The Tonight Show since he became host 12 years ago.

In addition to his musical tribute, Fallon toured Detroit in a brand new Ford F-150, sampled Michigan cuisine, and attended the Detroit Lions game. He even predicted the Lions would win—and was right, as Detroit defeated the Chicago Bears 52–21.
Celebrity Guests Shine in Motor City Episode
Before the game, Fallon and sidekick Steve Higgins joined Lions mascot Roary at Ford Field to try their luck at kicking field goals. The show also featured guest appearances from Keegan-Michael Key, Pistons star Cade Cunningham—who was surprised by the Detroit Pistons Dancers—and musician Common, who performed with Bilal and The Roots.

The surprises didn’t stop there. Detroit Lions star Aidan Hutchinson presented Fallon with the game ball from the Lions’ big win. The episode combined comedy, music, sports, and plenty of local flavor, making it an unforgettable celebration of Detroit and its culture.
