
Heavy Rain Floods Roads in Detroit – See the Video
A quick storm rolled through Metro Detroit on Wednesday, flooding a stretch of Schaefer near I-75, as seen in the video below.
Rainfall amounts across Southeast Michigan varied widely. While the Flint area saw just over half an inch (0.61 inches, according to Flint Bishop Airport), parts of Metro Detroit saw significantly more precipitation.
How Much Rain Fell in Metro Detroit?
According to Detroit's WDIV-TV, some areas received 1 to 2 inches of rain in a short period, with an estimated 2.6 inches falling from Melvindale to Lincoln Park.

Low-lying areas were most susceptible to flooding, prompting the National Weather Service to issue flood advisories for parts of Wayne County.
Tigers Delay Game in Advance of Storm
However, the downpour didn’t catch Metro Detroit by surprise. Forecasters had predicted the rain, and the Detroit Tigers issued a rain delay for Wednesday’s game a day in advance, on Tuesday, July 8.
The series finale between the Detroit Tigers and the Tampa Bay Rays, originally scheduled for 1:10 p.m., was delayed until 5:10 p.m. after the bulk of the showers passed. After the late start, the Tigers were defeated by the Rays, 7–3.
