Kid Falls 20 Feet From Rock Wall Climbing Attraction at Michigan Fair

You can now add rock climbing walls to the many reasons that I don't like going to carnivals and fairs. A child was injured over the weekend when he fell 20 feet off a rock climbing wall at the Wyandotte Street Art Fair.

Allison Trombley, a woman that was attending the fair said that while they were in line to climb the rock wall, the child that was in front of them made it to the top of the wall. When he let go to come down, the safety cord snapped and he fell 20 feet from the top of the rock wall to the concrete below.

Trombley immediately called 911.

We were able to talk to the operator, tell her where we were, explain the situation of the boy -- he was unconscious. It was just crazy because when he hit, I was expecting him to be crying, screaming -- something like that, but he was completely silent.

Police and fire crews arrived on the scene only to find the child unconscious. They rushed him to the hospital where he was treated for multiple broken bones.

Airborne Bouncers who supplied the rock wall made a statement after the incident.

It is our company’s mission to provide positive family fun and create memories. The equipment in question has been taken out of service until a full investigation and safety inspection has been completed.

This story reminds me of an incident that happened last week at the Cherry Festival in Traverse City when a ride malfunctioned and nearly tipped over.

Local carnival rides have always made me feel uneasy and these incidents just reinforce my feeling towards them.
