This movie theater in Allen Park, which was once a popular destination, now lies empty and abandoned, resembling a scene from an apocalyptic film.

The Allen Park Theater was built in the 1940s and at one time was filled with moviegoers and the smell of popcorn in the air. Now the theater sits dark and empty since closing its doors in 2019.

According to the Detroit Free Press, earlier this year, city officials had come to a decision with what they were planning for the building. Their plan was to demolish it and put something new in its place. As far as I know, the building still stands today.

For being an abandoned building that was built in the 40s, it looks like it's in relatively decent shape. I'm sure that's because we're looking at it from a distance. If you zoom in on the photo, you can tell the building has seen better days.

The theater shut down in October of 2019 but you can already see that it's starting to fall apart. It looks like 47 Meters Down was one of the last movies to hit the big screen at Allen Park Theater.

One person on Facebook made a comment about this photo and said "I can just feel my feet sticking to the floor." Another person replied, "If you know, you know." It sounds like the theater was in rough shape before it closed.

There is something about this theater that feels very creepy.

This is all that is left of one of the projector rooms.

According to Cinema Treasures, the theater opened in 1940 as a single-screen, art moderne-style house seating over 1,600. The Allen Park Theatre was designed by the firm of Bennett & Straight.

See Inside the Abandoned Otter Lake, Michigan Sanitarium

Otter Lake is home to the former Otter Lake Medical and Surgical Sanitarium. The many buildings on this site still stand, but just barely. The site has sat vacant for the last decade, and the years have taken their toll. Take a look through the crumbling and creepy ruins of the abandoned Otter Lake Sanitarium.
