For a lot of us here in Michigan, Pizza Hut wasn’t just pizza. It was a whole vibe. Birthday parties, team dinners, dark dining rooms, red plastic cups. When I was a kid, there was a comfort to it. You knew exactly what you were getting.
Pizza Hut Is Closing 250 Locations Nationwide
Now here’s the part that makes that nostalgia hit a little harder. According to CNN, Pizza Hut is closing 250 locations across the U.S. this year, and it’s happening sooner rather than later.

Why is Pizza Hut Closing 250 Locations?
The company says these are underperforming stores, and while they haven’t released a list yet, it wouldn’t be shocking to see some Michigan locations affected.
How Many Pizza Hut Locations Are Still in Michigan?
Michigan still has over 130 Pizza Hut locations, and a few of them are right here in Genesee County. Flint, Grand Blanc, Flushing, and Fenton all still have one, with Fenton set to open a second location soon.
We’ve already watched a bunch of Pizza Huts quietly disappear around mid-Michigan over the years. Some got turned into something else. Others just sat there forever with that classic Pizza Hut shape. You don’t even need a sign. You know what it used to be.
When a company starts cutting hundreds of locations and calling them “underperforming,” people in smaller markets start wondering if they’re going to be on the chopping block. Nobody’s saying Genesee County is next, but nobody’s promising anything either.
