Michigan’s all-time highest seasonal snowfall was recorded during the winter of 1978–79, when an incredible 355.90 inches piled up. If all that snow had fallen at once, it would have created a staggering depth of 29 feet, 8 inches.

The lowest seasonal snowfall in Michigan occurred during the winter of 1930–31, when just 81.30 inches were recorded. If that entire amount had fallen over a two-day stretch, it would have reached a depth of about 6 feet, 9 inches.

According to MLive, a record-breaking storm swept through Michigan’s Upper Peninsula this past Sunday and Monday, making history. Marquette recorded 36.2 inches of snow over two days, shattering the previous record set on March 13–14, 1997, when 31.9 inches fell.

Marquette also set a new one-day snowfall record, with 21.7 inches topping the previous mark of 7.7 inches set in 2013. Meanwhile, Mount Arvon, Michigan’s highest peak, picked up 39 inches over two days. While it didn’t break a record, it was still an impressive amount of snow.
