If You Could Bring Back Anything From Your Childhood, What Would It Be?
My wife had a crazy idea, well another one of many. She wanted to get matching footie pajamas for a Christmas card. I said, "That's cool. The kids will look adorable!" She said, "All of us." I said, "Oh. Uh... okay?" as my stomach hit the floor.
Now I embarrass myself all the time, but I like to do it on my terms, and after years of marriage, I've learned to pick my battles. This was a battle that some Pepto and a Xanax could handle for me so I agreed.
Then came the day I had been dreading... the package arrived. The kids were already running around the house in their matching PJs. As excited as a giddy school girl, my wife handed me my pair so I could join the fray. Her smile was huge and her eyes were sparkling, and as much as I wanted to set the pajamas on fire I couldn't bring myself to crush her spirit.
I went up to my room, took a deep breath and began to change. In that moment, I did change. I went from loathing the onesie to absolutely falling in love with it. It is, by far, the most comfortable piece of clothing I have ever owned. I almost wore them to work today!
That took me right back to my childhood. I remembered wearing my blue Winnie The Pooh jammies and playing with my Inspector Gadget action figure and remote-controlled school bus. Now I have footie jammies, I found a Gadget action figure on eBay, now I just need that damned school bus. That thing was awesome!
