I-75 Crash Shuts Down Freeway in Both Directions
A major traffic artery that runs through Mid-Michigan came to a complete stop Monday morning (7/28/2025) following a serious crash that paralyzed both directions of the freeway during rush hour. All lanes of northbound and southbound I-75 were closed after a semi-truck jackknifed in southern Genesee County near Baldwin Road.
Genesee County Crash Reported at 9:09 a.m.
The crash was reported at 9:09 a.m. near Baldwin Roan in southern Genesee County's Grand Blanc Township, just as traffic patterns began shifting due to ongoing construction in northern Oakland County.

According to the Grand Blanc Township Police Department, officers responded quickly to assess the scene, which resulted in a full interstate shutdown to allow investigators to evaluate the crash site before cleanup crews could clear the wreckage.
I-75 Freeway Shutdown and Detours
Detours were quickly put in place. Southbound traffic was forced off at Holly Road, while northbound vehicles were redirected at Saginaw Road, causing significant delays across the region.
Is the Freeway Really Open?
At this time, police have not confirmed whether there were injuries involved. However, Genesee County 911 Central Dispatch still categorizes the incident as an injury accident.
Traffic Still Not Moving
While some outlets reported that the freeway had reopened, real-time speed sensors show otherwise. As of this report (2:28 p.m. on 7/29/2025), there is no traffic movement between Holly and Saginaw Roads, particularly northbound—indicating that at least one side of I-75 remains closed.
Drivers in the Grand Blanc/Holly area are strongly advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes until further notice. Get live updates from Genesee County 911 by clicking here.
UPDATE: As of now (4:20pm), traffic on I-75 in the area of the crash is now moving at posted speeds.
