Grand Blanc's Geena Gall becomes the Flint area's second Olympian for the 2012 London Games as she qualified second in the 800 meter finals last night at Oregon's Hayward Field. Gall put on a furious kick with about 200 meters to go to pass several runners and grab a spot on the Olympic team.

Gall finished just behind Alysia Montano and will join Alice Schmidt as the USA representatives in the 800 meter run in the London Games which open July 27th.

Boxer Claressa Shields is the Flint area's other Olympic hopeful. Both have a legitimate shot at bringing home an Olympic medal.

Not only people from around Flint, but the whole world will be watching them go for the gold. Hard work has paid off for both athletes, and we already have reason to be quite proud of their achievements.
