Golf Courses Will Need to Close Under Michigan’s Stay at Home Order
Golfers in Michigan were hoping their favorite outdoor activity was still a go even after the governor imposed a stay at home order closing most businesses. Now, Michigan golf courses will have to close with new clarification from Gov. Whitmer's office.
Milder temps and sunshine have had golfers flocking to local courses to sneak in a round or two and enjoy some outdoor fresh air over the past week, but now that will have to end. The governor's office posted on Friday a clarification to the order under the FAQ section, with one of the questions asking if golf courses can stay open.
The answer states,"No. While EO 2020-21 contemplates outdoor activity, opening a golf course to the public does not fall under the designation of critical infrastructure. Consequently, a golf course may not designate employees as critical infrastructure employees and authorize them come to work."
Michigan has more than 650 public courses and is a more than $4 billion industry, and for. now it looks like breaking out the clubs will have to wait.
