A true comedy legend is coming to perform live in Mid-Michigan, and we had a chance to get an exclusive interview with George Lopez ahead of his May 7 stop in Flint.

Who Is George Lopez and Why He Still Loves Stand-Up

George is one of the biggest names in comedy. You’ve seen him in his hit sitcom George Lopez and Lopez vs. Lopez, and now he’s back on stage doing what he does best, stand-up comedy.

With a career that started in stand-up, he’s become an actor, an advocate, and even has his hand in animation. When we asked if getting back on stage in front of a live audience felt like going home, he said,

He continued,

…while you’re still young enough, or coherent enough to do it, I think it’s something that you should never disregard. It’s been a blessing, for me personally.

George Lopez Reflects on His Hollywood Walk of Fame Journey

He is a very humble man. When we asked about his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, he told us that when he was 14, his friends worked at General Motors. They were driving at 15 and went to the famous walkway, where he saw George Burns’ name and imagined his own. Now, he can’t believe it’s a reality.

Why Flint Audiences Connect With George Lopez’s Comedy

George Lopez also had some kind words about the City of Flint and is very aware of what the community has gone through.

I know exactly what Flint has gone through, and I think my stories are about hope and a little underdog thing going on.

Speaking about the Flint-area audience, George said,

Hard-working, blue-collar people will always find anything that remotely resembles what they grew up with funny.

When we asked if he would cross a line at his adults-only show in Flint, he mentioned that at one show he got a visit from the Secret Service and that it may have handicapped him, so who knows what will happen when he takes the stage.
