Beloved Michigan Native Dave Coulier Is Now Cancer-Free After Two Separate Battles
Yesterday was World Cancer Day, and there was some good news delivered by a beloved Michigander. Actor and comedian Dave Coulier, yes, Uncle Joey from Full House, says he’s now in remission from tongue cancer. Even more remarkably, he’s also in remission from Stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma. After two cancer battles in just a few years, the word remission carries real weight for him.
Dave Coulier Shares Life-Saving Diagnosis Discovery
For Coulier, a Michigan native who grew up in Detroit, the journey has been anything but simple. During a routine follow-up appointment for lymphoma, a PET scan revealed something unexpected in his throat. That scan, and the doctors who didn’t ignore it, ended up saving his life. The diagnosis was a form of cancer at the base of his tongue, completely unrelated to his earlier cancer.

Treatment wasn’t easy. Coulier underwent robotic surgery, followed by 35 radiation treatments. He didn’t sugarcoat it. He said on Good Morning America that radiation can steal pieces of your life emotionally, physically, and psychologically.

But in true Dave fashion, he refused to let cancer take his sense of humor. He chose laughter, love, and staying close to the people who matter most.
Family, Friends, and Laughter Through the Fight
That support system made all the difference. His wife Melissa stood by him through every step. Longtime friend John Stamos even flew to Michigan to visit, wearing a bald cap just to make Dave laugh, a moment of ridiculous joy in the middle of something very real and very scary.
A Message About Early Detection and Hope
Now in remission, Coulier is using his voice to encourage others to pay attention to their health. Get checked. Ask questions. Stay ahead of it. Because early detection, as he learned firsthand, means everything.
