Genesee County Health Department Wants Your Help on Earth Day

Today is Earth Day and the Genesee County Health Department wants your help in protecting the earth and keeping Genesee County clean!

According to the GCHD, cigarette butts are the most littered item on U.S. roadways and the number one item found on beaches and waterways. Studies also show that cigarette butts are toxic, slow to decompose and costly to remove plus kids could pick them up and put them in their mouths. A recent survey found that 88% of Americans think that cigarette butts are an environmental concern. The GCHD says that it is important to be mindful on Earth Day (and every day) of how toxic cigarette butts are and to dispose of them properly.

So do your part today and if you come across a cigarette butt not properly disposed of, take a second to pick it up and throw it away. And then wash your hands!
