It's with heavy hearts that we report the passing of former Cars 108 morning show host Dave McKay.

A coworker went to check on him when he failed to show up for work this morning and found him dead in his apartment. Police in Tampa have ruled out foul play and suicide.

McKay spent several years entertaining listeners on Cars 108 and becoming a household name in the Flint area before leaving for Indianapolis in 1990. From there, Dave headed to Tampa Florida, and has been a morning-radio staple in that area for several years on Tampa's WQYK, 99.5 FM. The video below features McKay and his morning partner Veronica welcoming Nick Carter to the studio.

Cars 108's Vice President and General Manager Zoe Burdine-Fly worked with McKay during her early years in the radio business.

“I remember working with Dave when I first started out, and genuinely appreciated his wit and the time we spent working together. He was an amazing talent and a great guy… radio lost one of its best today. Our prayers and sympathies are with his family.”

McKay's former Cars 108 co-host Dana Cameron shared a fond memory of Dave on her Facebook page this morning.

"Oh Dave!" That was my usual response when my long time radio partner Dave McKay would come up with his latest wacky idea for our morning show at Cars 108 in Flint. But almost without exception they worked and were hilarious.

After several years on the Dave and Dana (Dana and Dave) show, Dave went off to Indianapolis and then to Tampa. I went to Detroit. We stayed in touch in the 25 years since, often sending old tapes that we'd found, first by snail mail, then digitally. ... A few weeks ago, Dave messaged me and told me he was paying, and I was to come up to Florida and we would reminisce about the good old days. I was going to make reservations for next month.

R.I.P., Dave. Our thoughts and prayers are with McKay's family during this very difficult time.
