Flint Township Teacher Named Best in the Region

Congratulations, Ms. Matthews!

Jessyca Matthews has been an English teacher at Carman-Ainsworth High School, which is also where SHE attended high school, for the last 19 years. She says that one of the things that stuck with her is that she never had a teacher who was the same color that she is, so that was part of her driving force to become one.

Not only does she teach English, but she created an activism and research class for her seniors that will help "empower" them for the real world. She says that there is so much in the world that can pull these kids down; her job to is to lift them up.

Over 400 teachers throughout the state were nominated, and Jessyca is one of just 10 winners. It'd definitely not hard to figure out WHY, right? I wish I had a teacher like her when I was in high school! Congratulations!
