In a press conference Wednesday afternoon, Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley announced who will be taking over as the new police chief of Flint.

Mt. Morris Township Police Chief Terence Green will be filling the position vacated by Interim Chief Phil Hart just a few days ago.  Hart filled the position back in February after former Flint Police Chief Tim Johnson resigned in November, 2019. His term expired on Monday, August 10th.

Chief Green is said to be a longtime resident of Flint, and is the retired Captain of the Sheriff's Department. He is finishing up his current role a Chief of Police for Mt. Morris Township. He has held that position since September of 2014.

Chief Green graduated from Minnesota State University Moorehead where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in 1991 according to his bio. After graduation, he returned to Michigan where in 1992, was hired by the Genesee County Sheriff's Department as a corrections officer.

As his career progressed, he received paramedic certification as well as completed the Delta Police Academy and graduated as a certified police officer in 1995. He served as a road deputy and was assigned to three different narcotics teams over the years. Back in 2009 Green was promoted to Captain and served until is retirement from the Sheriff's Department in 2013.

Since that retirement, Chief Green has expanded his career knowledge by attending the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command and successfully graduating in 2014.

During the press conference Chief Green noted his dedication to the new position saying, " I'm accepting  this position due to the fact that I have a everlasting love for the City of Flint. I love this city, and being able to be appointed to the Chief of Police of  the City of Flint will be the pinnacle of my law enforcement career."

Mayor Neeley said that Terrence Green will be starting his new position as chief no later than September 1st.
