24-Year-Old Killed in Flint Motorcycle Crash, Police Need Help

Flint police are seeking help from the public to piece together a crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV.

What We Know About the Flint Motorcycle Crash

WJRT reports that a 24-year-old motorcyclist, Antoine Jacques Hampton II, was killed Tuesday afternoon after a crash on Richfield Road near North Center Road. Investigators say he was heading east on a Honda motorcycle when an SUV going the other way turned left and ended up in his path. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Right now, police do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved, but they are looking at speed as a possible factor. The investigation is ongoing, and they are asking anyone who may have seen something to come forward.

Michigan Motorcycle Crash Statistics

When you zoom out, this situation reflects what is happening across Michigan more often than people may think. There were more than 3,100 motorcycle crashes in the state last year, including 168 that were fatal according to Falzon Law. Many of those crashes happen on city streets, particularly at intersections. In a lot of cases, they involve a vehicle turning left and failing to see a motorcycle approaching.

Motorcycles are smaller and can be harder to spot, especially in busy traffic or at intersections. Drivers can also misjudge how fast a motorcycle is traveling, which can lead to serious consequences in a matter of seconds. Unlike passenger vehicles, motorcycles do not offer the same level of protection, leaving riders with very little room for error when something goes wrong.
