How in the hell was this guy still on the streets of Flint? This wild story involves a Flint man who was completely out of control.

An Outlier in a City Seeing Progress

Vincent “Vito” Galicia, 37, has been sentenced to 19 years in federal prison after a string of drug and gun crimes that ended in brutal, devastating violence.

Galicia pleaded guilty to trafficking methamphetamine and cocaine, possessing illegal firearms, and being a felon in possession of a gun. The sentence was announced late last week by U.S. Attorney Jerome Gorgon. But the details only get worse from there.

So Much Evidence, So Little Sense: How Was He Still On The Streets?

According to MLive, back in January 2019, Flint police executed a search warrant at Galicia’s home and uncovered a staggering amount of evidence. Investigators seized nearly a kilogram of methamphetamine, 85 grams of cocaine, additional suspected drugs, and two pistols.

One of those guns was equipped with a 50-round drum magazine. Officers also found more than $8,000 in cash. Despite all of that, Galicia was later released on bond.

When Being Out on Bond Turned Tragic for a Flint Woman

While free in March 2021, authorities say Galicia broke into a woman’s home and shot her in the neck. The woman, who had been in a romantic relationship with him, was left permanently paralyzed.

Only after that shooting did federal authorities step in. ATF agents joined the investigation and brought federal charges tying together both the 2019 drug and gun case and the 2021 shooting.

This armed drug dealer broke into a woman’s home where he shot and paralyzed her.

They added that the most disturbing part of the case was that Galicia was somehow out on bond despite being caught with guns and massive amounts of meth and cocaine.

ATF Detroit Special Agent in Charge James Deir also condemned Galicia’s actions, calling his behavior “repulsive” and pointing to his complete disregard for the safety of others.

The investigation involved the ATF, Flint Police Department, and Michigan State Police. And while the 19-year sentence closes the case in court, it leaves behind an unsettling reminder of what can happen here, or anywhere, when someone who clearly should not be free somehow still lurks in our streets.

As always, if you see something... say something. Contact your local authorities is you think you've witnessed a crime or abuse.
