C'mon, ladies and gentlemen - let's get it together.

For months, you've heard the commercials telling you to make sure that you respond to the 2020 census. It's aimed at documenting every person living in the United States and the five U.S. territories. The decennial census is taken every ten years and this year, for the first time ever, you can respond online.

So, you'd think that we'd have a huge response, right? I mean, you don't have to go anywhere or mail anything, right? WRONG.

According to 2020census.gov, Michigan has only received a 67% response rate. The goal for the state was 82% by April 30th.

As a city, Flint has a 47.2% response rate. The response rates are updated five days per week to reflect the most current numbers. However, as a state, we're third in the country for a response rate, which just means that ALL states are behind.

The census is used to allocate $675 billion in federal funds for housing, education, transportation, employment, health care, and more.

If you're looking for some temporary work, they're still hiring for census takers here in Genessee County. The pay is $18 an hour with flexible hours and paid training. If you're interested, you can call (844)330-2020.

At the risk of finger-wagging, I'm gonna say it - there's no excuse for anybody to NOT participate in the 2020 census. We can do it online, people. It's easy. AJ did ours back in March ONLINE. So if your excuse is, "but I didn't get mine in the mail," that doesn't fly. Get online and do it.
