Fast Food Workers Striking In Flint And Detroit
As word comes down that the McDouble is the greatest food in human history, it may be hard to find one today in Flint and in Detroit. Thousands of fast food employees are expected to go on strike today. They are demanding that their minimum wage be boosted from $7.40 an hour to $15.
Employees of fast food chains such as McDonald's, Burger King, KFC, and Wendy's are hoping that their protests will prompt their employes to more than double their pay to what they call a living wage.
In addition to Flint, strikes are expected to happen in Detroit, St. Louis, New York, Chicago, Milwaukee, and Kansas City, Missouri.
The New York Times reported that strikes began as early as Friday in Brooklyn when employees at Papa John's and Domino's took to the picket line. And the Washington Post says the strike goes beyond fast food. Employees at other low-wage stores like Macy's, Dollar Tree and Victoria's Secret are expected to picket today as well.
