Detroit Tigers Beef Up Lineup, Sign Prince Fielder
His daddy Cecil Fielder used to hit balls over the left field roof at Tiger Stadium. Young Prince Fielder used to reach the seats as a kid taking BP at the old ballpark.
Now he gets his chance to reach the rightfield seats in Comerica Park and drive in a ton of runs batting behind American League batting champion Miguel Cabrera.
The Tigers surprised the baseball world by signing the free agent Fielder to a 9-year, $214 million dollar contract. Tiger owner Mike Illitch has made it pretty clear that he wants to win a world championship NOW.
Fielder, age 27, hit .299 for the Brewers last season with 38 homers and 120 RBI. He is expected to replace Victor Martinez in the Tiger lineup behind Cabrera, after Martinez injured his knee recently and is expected to be out for the season.
Presumably, Fielder will play first base and Cabrera will take over the DH role. Pitchers in the American League Central are not going to be happy to hear this news.
