They say the people you work with become your family over time, and that statement couldn't be more true when it comes to one local salon & spa.

Affinity Day Spa & Salon in Davison Township is coming to the aid of their co-worker, hair stylists David Newell,  after he was shot six times during a home invasion on December 23rd. According to reports, Newell, who is 58, was trapped inside his Flint home, beaten by three men pointing guns at his head demanding money. There was a gun fight that resulted in Newell taking six bullets, firing two of his own, and requiring surgery on his femur bone. As a result he is unable to work for at least a month and according to the GoFundMe page set up by his sister he has no disability insurance or other means of income.

His colleagues were quick to respond with support and love for a man described as  gentle, loving, and well liked by everyone.  All 45 employees of Affinity Day Spa & Salon have committed to donating at least $10 per week in addition to hosting a fundraiser on Sunday, January 5th from 1:00-6:00 p.m.  The special event will be a walk-in based fundraiser where clients, friends and anyone else who wants to support Newell can attend. The group will be donating manicure, chair massage, hair wash & style, eye brow tint/wax all for the cost of a donation.  All proceeds will go towards Newell's expenses.

Affinity employee Elisha Wood commented on why the amazing team at the salon is doing everything they can for their friend.  "We as a family can rally around him and his own family and just let them know that we are there for them, and I hope that he's right back at that chair soon doing what he loves," Wood said.

As of today the GoFundMe page has raised over $12,000 for Newell with hopes that the fundraiser on January 5th adds much more.
