The incident was captured on video, which you'll see below.
Nathan Greenwood and his wife came to the rescue after they noticed the boat had caught fire on Grand Traverse Bay in Northern Michigan.
"It's too late, guys," someone heard saying in the video. "It's too late. Get off the boat. It's gonna blow."
The folks on the boat were hesitant to leave the craft but acquiesced after hearing Greenwood's plea. They jumped into the water, escaping the flames just seconds before an explosion is captured on video. i i i i i i i i
Split-Second Decision
Greenwood tells ABC that he recognized how much danger the pair was in.
"I knew very quickly that if they did not get off the boat, they were either going to pass out from the inhalation of the smoke, the heat, or it would end up eventually exploding," Nathan said. "It's really fortunate because, within three seconds of them jumping off of the boat, it exploded."
Greenwood and his wife assisted the boaters after they jumped, helping them to shore. The fire-engulfed boat later sank to the bottom of the bay.
