Watch: Cecily Strong as Gretchen Whitmer in SNL Vaccine Game Show [VIDEO]
Hoisting a bottle of Michigan-made Oberon beer, Cecily Strong reprised her role as Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer on Saturday Night Live, in a game show sketch called 'So You Think You Can Get the Vaccine.'
The skit, which opened the show on Saturday (2/27), featured Whitmer and fellow governors Andrew Cuomo (Pete Davidson) from New York and Gavin Newsom (Alex Moffat) from California as judges who decided the fate of contestants vying for the opportunity to get a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
SNL's Kate McKinnon brilliantly played the role of Dr. Anthony Fauci, who served as host of the competition.
"Our next judge narrowly escaped being kidnapped by a group of men whose fingerprints probably had Cheetos dust on them, please welcome the governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer," Fauci said.
The game show's first contestant was a Michigan resident named Jennifer who donned a University of Michigan sweatshirt, saying, "Go, Wolverines!" before taking a quick jab at the governor.
"Oh thanks, I actually voted for you," the contestant (played by Heidi Gardner) said after being welcomed by Whitmer. "I voted for you to get kidnapped, but still," she continued.
"All right, well, I'll take it," the Whitmer character asked her before questioning why she deserved the vaccine.
Jennifer claimed to be an essential worker in Michigan, saying she works in the IT department for OnlyFans. OnlyFans is a subscription-based website where viewers pay to see content, some of which is adult-oriented or explicit. Whitmer went on to question Jennifer about her pre-existing conditions.
"I have a really bad attitude, I'm allergic to dust, and I don't know if this is anything, but I have herpes," she answered. After being denied the vaccine by Whitmer, Jennifer stormed off, saying, "What? Then why did I just say that on TV?"
The remaining contestants included a young woman dressed as an elderly lady, Senator Ted Cruz, a man pretending to be a heavy smoker, and an elderly former Army doctor who was given the green light to get the vaccine but had no idea how to get registered for it online.
Strong's first crack at portraying Governor Whitmer on SNL was in an unaired sketch from last year after Whitmer was referred to as 'that woman' by then-President Donald Trump. Whitmer was featured sipping a Labatt Blue.
Whitmer praised the sketch but quipped that the show got it wrong, joking (in this video) that she only drinks Michigan beer.
