$4.6 Million Investment Will Expand Bishop Airport and Create New Opportunities
For years, people around Mid-Michigan have wondered what the future holds for Bishop International Airport. Well, here's a pretty big sign that things are headed in the right direction.
Bishop International Airport Receives More Than $4.6 Million
The airport just landed more than $4.6 million in federal funding to make some major upgrades, and it's not just about making the place look nicer. According to ABC 12, the money will help build 40 acres of new airplane hangars along with additional taxi and rideshare lanes, making it easier for both travelers and businesses to use the airport.

Airport CEO Nino Sapone said this project has been sitting on Bishop's master plan for the last five years, so getting the green light was a huge relief. Even better, because the project is being paid for with federal and state dollars, the airport won't have to pass those costs along to passengers or airlines. That's important because Bishop wants to stay competitive with larger airports while continuing to offer affordable service.

The new hangars could also become a big economic boost. Sapone says there's already interest from companies looking for aircraft storage and aviation space, which could bring more jobs and business activity to the Flint area.

This isn't the first big investment either. Just last year, Bishop received nearly $5 million for improvements inside the terminal, including new flooring, updated ticket counters, and upgraded flight information displays.
Officials Say Bishop Expansion Could Bring New Business to Flint
Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet says airports like Bishop aren't just about getting us on vacation. They play a major role in commerce, attracting businesses, and creating economic opportunities across Mid-Michigan.
