Local Facebook Group Discussion Pages – Help Or Hindrance?

I belong to a few community Facebook groups. From the Fenton Shoot The Breeze Facebook page to the Lapeer Discussion Group and other groups in between, there is never a dull moment or lack of stupidity.

Sure I understand people get some decent referrals for carpet cleaning, local doctors and dentists, even places to eat. However, there are plenty of dumb (in my opinion) questions too. Why someone would go to a group chat and ask about a babysitter and or child care for their kid and or kids is beyond me. Especially when they give ages and additional information about their child or children. Isn't this something you would want to discuss with people you know or even just Google day care centers in your area?

I should preface that I do not have any kids, but come on - if I did I would not be looking to Facebook strangers for advice on caring for them. Am I being paranoid or is this really too much information for people to be sharing?

I know I am not the only one who thinks like this because I have read comments by others on such pages like 'Maybe you should ask a trusted friend for a referral', or giving your home location in a round about way and your kid(s) ages may not be the best idea'.

Sure there are plenty of referrals that benefit the person asking a particular question, but when it comes to kids, be a little more protective. Do you agree or perhaps you did ask a child care question and received positive results?

Don't even get me started on people putting signs in their front yards about 'Caleb turning nine today'. Those types of signs scream to me  - Hey strangers, there is a kid that lives here.  I hate that too. Maybe I am overthinking this, but I really don't thinks so.
