Just as back to school is in full swing, another round of recalls is underway and this one is for a popular beverage kids love. A major apple juice recall has been announced, affecting several brands sold at chain retailers across the U.S. including Michigan.

According to the FDA, the recall involves some bottles of apple juice sold at stores such as Walgreens, Walmart, BJ’s, Weis, and Aldi. The juice in question is being recalled due to concerning levels of inorganic arsenic.

The multi-state recall applies to specific bottles of Great Value, Market Basket, Weis, Urban Meadow, Natures Nectar, Wellsley Farms, Solevita, and Clover Valley apple juice according to  Refresco Beverages US, the manufacturer, and the US Food and Drug Administration’s website.

"The safety of consumers is always our top priority. On August 23, 2024, out of an abundance of caution, we voluntarily initiated a recall of some select lots of 100% apple juice products produced using supplier-provided concentrate when we became aware that previously manufactured product contained inorganic arsenic slightly above the FDA’s 10 ppb (parts per billion) action level as set by the FDA in June 2023 in the FDA Final Guidance to Industry on Action Level for Inorganic Arsenic in Apple Juice", Refresco said in a press release.

Refresco notes in their statement that no illnesses have been reported concerning the recall.

For Walmart shoppers, the Great Value apple juice recall was sold in six-packs of 8-ounce plastic bottles and 96-ounce bottles. The juice was sold at more than 2,000 Walmart stores in 25 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia.

For those shopping at Aldi, the recall focused on the 64-ounce plastic bottles of Nature's Nectar 100% Apple Juice with best-by dates of March 26, 2025, and March 27, 2025. Both Walmart and Aldi's recall included Michigan stores.

You can view the full FDA enforcement recall notice here. Do not consume the juice, but return it to the store of purchase. If you have further questions, call Refresco at 1-888-260-3776.
