Did you know that President Taft was the first president to toss the ceremonial first pitch before a Major League Baseball game? He did in in 1910 on Opening Day at Griffith Stadium before a Washington Senators game. Since Taft, every president has followed suit taking the mound at some point during his presidency.

Franklin Roosevelt holds the record for the most times a president got the honor, hurling nine different times (eight opening days and an All-Star Game). Here’s a look back at some of the more memorable performances of presidents over the past century:

In an announcement that surprised absolutely no one, the Baseball Writers Association of America unanimously selected the Detroit Tigers' Justin Verlander as the 2011 Cy Young Award winner. He received all 28 first-place votes from the participating writers, becoming the first Tiger to win the award for the American League's best pitcher since Guillermo "Willie" Hernandez in 1984. In my opinion, baseball season ended Saturday night when the Detroit Tigers lost to the Texas Rangers, and were eliminated from the ALCS race. But technically since were still in the post-season, I want to show you a video of a baseball fan (well, maybe he isn't much of a fan) who fell asleep at a game.

Soldier Returns Home, Surprises Family at Baseball Game [VIDEO]

We've enjoyed a lot of foul ball videos lately, but none like the one you're about to see.

We've seen a dad that managed to hold on to his kid, one that (oops!) dropped his kid, a selfless kid that gave up a ball, a sweet kid that got a bit emotional, a pouty kid, and even George Bush dodging a foul ball.

This video is different. Ruby and Gracie Weichman got quite a surprise the other night at a minor league baseball game. The 4-year-old twins, and their mother Abby were chosen by the Spokane Review to participate in its newspaper toss before the game. The surprise came when the girls' father, Air Force Sergent Chris Weichman, emerged from the Spokane Indians' dugout after just returning from this third tour of duty in Afghanistan!

It's being referred to as the worst call in baseball. After 19 innings, the Atlanta Braves beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 4-3 Tuesday night. But was umpire Jerry Meals just tired? Had he simply had enough, and wanted this six-hour contest to end? Or was this simply a bad call at home plate?

Hit the jump to watch the video. This game-ending call appears to me to be even worse than the bad call made by Jim Joyce last June, when Detroit Tigers' pitcher Armando Galarraga was robbed of his perfect game.

Now Ian, a young Arizona Diamondbacks fan, did the right thing and handed off a ball to Nicholas. But Nicholas is a Brewers fan! If you don't think this is sweet, there just may be something wrong with you.

Keith Carmickle, the man in this video who nearly fell to his death at Monday night's Home Run Derby, appeared this morning on Good Morning America. Keith still seemed shaken by the incident, but plans to put a positive spin on the ordeal.

Keith and his brother Craig told GMA they caught several balls at the MLB slug-fest Monday, and plan to auction two of them on eBay, with the proceeds going to the Stone Memorial Fund. Shannon Stone, a 39-year-old firefighter and father from Texas lost his life last Thursday attempting to catch a foul ball at a Texas Rangers game in Arlington.

Keith Carmickle is one lucky guy. Watch as Keith nearly falls trying to catch a home run ball hit by Milwaukee's Prince Fielder at the Home Run Derby Monday night.
