Detroit Tiger Legend Kirk Gibson Heading to Flint in Support of Youth Baseball
Detroit Tiger fans still talk about Kirk Gibson and the 1984 World Series win as if it was just yesterday. "Gibby" as he is known is embedded in Detroit sports not only as a player but also as a color commentator for the Detroit Tigers. Gibson is all about baseball, and he's lending his help in support of some of the youngest players right here in Flint.
Kirk Gibson will be helping out the Greater Flint Area Baseball and Softball Association for their upcoming fundraiser by heading into town for an appearance. The former Tiger outfield great will be helping to raise funds to improve the Broome and Whaley park fields.

The event, "Hot Stove Night with Kirk Gibson", will be held on January 29th at Foutch’s Strike Zone in Flint Township on Linden Road. The event starts at 2 p.m. with a cash bar and food for purchase, with the program featuring Gibson starting at 3 p.m. Gibson will also be joined by Bally Sports play-by-play man Matt Shepard.
Tickets for the event are $125, and there is limited seating. Those attending will need to adhere to COVID 19 protocol and wear a mask when not eating or drinking.
In addition to raising funds for the local youth baseball, Gibson will also touch on his toughest opponent, Parkinson's Disease. In April of 2015, Gibson announced he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Gibson added raising awareness and funding for Parkinson’s research to his already active Kick Gibson Foundation that was established in 1996 to provide college scholarships to students at Waterford Kettering and Clarkston High Schools.
