It looks like those people who are so chipper in the morning at work are ACTUALLY happier than night owls. There is a new study says that as we age we settle into more of a daytime schedule and that helps keep us more cheerful overall.

University of Toronto researchers studied two demographics of adults.  between 17 and 38 years old, and between 59 and 79, and Each group was questioned about their preferred time of day, their emotional state, and how healthy they feel.

Even though only 7 percent of the younger people were morning people, most become that way that by age 60 — and overall, early-risers reported “greater position emotion.” In addition, morning people also tended to say they felt healthier than night owls did.

So how does a night person become a morning person? “Increase your natural light exposure early in the morning, [and] wake up earlier and go to bed earlier,” the researchers said. “It’s easiest if you have a consistent schedule, to make sure you are waking up at the same time every day.”
