Volunteers Help Clean Up Abandoned Flint Mobile Home Park – The Good News
The neighbors feel like the city isn't doing enough, so they took matters into their own hands.
Shady Acres Mobile Home Park in Flint has been an eyesore for years; it's been abandoned since 2015. The weeds are overgrown and there's trash everywhere. Genesee County Land Bank owns the property, but won't have the money to demolish it.
So, neighbors decided to act on it themselves - volunteers (including some from the Land Bank) started a cleanup project themselves. The organizer says that they plan to have one final cleanup sometime in October. They're frustrated because they feel like the city of Flint is doing a lot to improve other neighborhoods, but this one.
Like my mom said - if you want it done RIGHT, you've got to do it yourself. People taking pride in their neighborhoods is inspiring.
