Daring Escape: Saginaw Caretaker Locked Sister-In-Law in Basement for Years
This is one of those stories that just makes you stop and think, how does something like this even happen?
What Police Say Happened in Saginaw
Police in Saginaw say a woman is now facing serious charges after allegedly locking her own sister-in-law in a basement for about two years. Not days, not weeks, years.

And the only reason anyone found out? WJRT reports that the victim had to break a window at another house just to get someone’s attention.

According to investigators, the 58-year-old woman told police she had just escaped from a nearby home, where she says she had been held the entire time. She admitted she broke the window on purpose, hoping someone would finally call for help.
Conditions Inside the Basement
When detectives looked into it, they say her story checked out. They are calling her a vulnerable adult and say she was given very little food and water, with no access to a bathroom or even a shower the entire time.

That is the part that really hits. How does someone live like that? And how does someone else allow it?
Charges Against the Accused Caretaker
Police say the woman accused, 48-year-old Tasha Beamon, was actually supposed to be her caretaker. Instead, she is now charged with unlawful imprisonment and first-degree vulnerable adult abuse. She is still in jail, waiting for her next court dates.
It is hard to wrap your head around. Two years, locked in a basement, barely taken care of, and the only way out was literally breaking a window and hoping someone noticed. Just unbelievable.
