A Thanksgiving without turkey would be like St. Patrick's Day without green beer!

That just can't happen, or can it?

Butterball, is one of the companies who buys up the most turkeys on the market and they have cut back on orders for birds 16 pounds or more. Butterball sells about 20% of all turkeys in the US.

.The official statement from Butterball goes like this::

There may be limited availability on some larger sizes of fresh turkeys…We experienced a decline in weight gains on some of our farms causing a limited availability of large, fresh turkeys.”

The average turkey sold at Thanksgiving averages about 16 pounds, so the lack of weight creates more demand for the turkeys 16 pounds or larger.

The shortage is not isolated to Michigan either, it is all across the county.
