Seems counterproductive, doesn't it?

About 230 American Red Cross workers in Michigan will be without a job come November. It was announced that the job cuts will affect employees in the Great Lakes region including Lansing, Muskegon, Petoskey, Flint, Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids.

The Red Cross says that this will NOT affect the availability for blood. A union representative told a station out of Lansing that they will be bringing in blood from out-of-state.

Officials say that these cuts are because of an industry-wide decline in the need for blood (not according to THIS, but anyways...) and an "effort to consolidate" to become more cost-effective.
