Peanut, a two year-old shelter rescue from North Carolina has overcome some real obstacles to claim this year's title of "World's Ugliest Dog."
Holly Chandler, Peanut's owner, found the unlikely pageant winner in a shelter, a victim of abuse and a fire that left him with no lips or eyelids. She plans to use the cash prize of $1,500 to pay the outstanding veterinary bills of other shelter animals.
She loves him all the more for his quirky good looks, and hopes that Peanut will be a good ambassador for rescue animals in need of good homes.
