Taco Bell has chosen Flint as the testing ground for the potential new promotional menu item known as the Toasted Cheddar Chalupa and holy crap is it good.

The Toasted Cheddar Chalupa is really a no-brainer for those of you who like toasted cheddar. I'm a huge fan of both the flavor and texture cheddar takes on when grilled or toasted, but my wife hates it. It's one of those things you either like or don't, but if you do -- you gotta try this thing.

I immediately knew I had to pull in and try it when I saw the window sign at the Burton Taco Bell last week. I had just been there the night before -- I eat at Taco Bell more than I should sometimes -- and they did not have that item. In fact, I had never even heard about it, which is rare. I'm usually in the loop on this sort of thing.

The reason it flew under my radar is that Flint is the only market it's being tested in according to Marketwatch. Some Redditors are saying they have them in Alma and Mount Pleasant as well, but we can neither confirm or deny that. Since we published this article, several readers have also commented that Owosso, Saginaw, Fenton, Clio, Perry, and Caro locations also have the new item.

Taco Bell has been known to test new items in different markets, but this is the first time I've ever heard of the Flint area being chosen. They're also currently testing a Reaper Ranch Quesarito and a $2 Stacker Duo in Milwaukee and Charlotte, respectively.

As it turns out, the Toasted Cheddar Chalupa was the best "new thing" I've had from TB in a long, long time. Maybe ever. Usually, their new items sound awesome, and are pretty good, but fall just shy of my expectations. This was the case with the Naked Chicken Chalupa, Chicken Chips, Quesalupa, Nacho Fries, and the Doritos Loco Tacos. Not the Toasted Cheddar Chalupa though. This was actually better than I expected it to be.

The shell was nice and crispy on the outside, just like I had hoped. It's a rarity that any fast food arrives as crispy as you want it to be these days, but the T-Double-C delivered. I ordered two of the Steak Toasted Cheddar Chalupas, because the $5 box only comes with one and I thought that wouldn't be enough, but it was actually too much. They're much more filling than the regular chalupas. Believe it or not, the Toasted Cheddar Chalupas are cheaper than the regular Chalupas by 20 or 30 cents if I remember correctly.

So there you go -- the Toasted Cheddar Chalupa gets two thumbs up from me. Go try one while supplies last, and I would highly recommend you upgrade to the S-Class. If you don't know what that means, you can watch the commercial below and yes I'm aware that I may have a slight Taco Bell problem.
