Strong Winds Leave Thousands of Michigan Customers Without Power

As strong winds continue to blow throughout Michigan's Lower Peninsula, thousands of Consumers Energy and DTE Energy customers throughout the state are without power.

Power Outages in Lower Michigan

Consumers Energy reports that about 24,000 people are without power as of 11:15 this morning (3/31).

About 1,600 people in the Mt. Morris area between I-75 and Lewis Rd. are without power as of this writing. Those customers are tentatively expected to have their lights back on late this afternoon.

Elsewhere in the Flint area, customers in Holly, Lake Fenton, and Mundy Township are reporting power outages as well. Approximately 200 combined customers in those areas are expected to have their power restored by evening.

DTE Energy, which serves customers in Southeast Michigan from the Thumb to south of the Detroit area, reports that more than 68,000 customers are without power as of 11:15 am today.

Crews Are Working to Restore Power

Consumers Energy notes on its website that restoration efforts could be slowed as crews continue to battle strong wind gusts.

"High winds blowing throughout Michigan today make restoring power more challenging than usual. Restoration times could be adjusted as our crews work to safely restore your power."

Stay Away From Downed Power Lines

Remember, stay at least 20 feet away from a downed power line and make sure that you, your family, pets, and neighbors stay clear of power lines as well. Please don’t touch anything downed lines touch, like fences, or puddles.
