Hate to say it, but you'll be going around M-24 for a while.

Yes, your swearing will continue when you hit the detour on M-24 through Lapeer because there was an over four week delay in getting the M-24 bridge project over Farmers Creek going. As of July 7th, M-24 remains detoured at Farmers Creek via Demille Road, Saginaw Street, and Genesee Street.

When Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) crews got into the ground to dig for the pedestrian tunnel, they encountered an old steam tunnel that was littered with abandoned utility lines covered in asbestos. Of course, you can't just let that sort of stuff laying around, MDOT crews had to properly remove the asbestos.

So, while we were all looking forward to the M-24 detour to be lifted prior to Labor Day, that's not going to happen now. Looks like MDOT is projecting the M-24 detour to remain in place through the week of September 21st, and plan for the entire project to be completed by late October.
