Sorry, Demolition Lovers: The Joe Won’t Implode Like the Silverdome
Then again, the Silverdome didn't really "implode" either. The first time, anyways.
Dang. Not gonna lie; I was excited to camp out downtown and watch that sucker go DOWN.
The Adamo group has a $5.9 million contract with the city to take down the Joe Louis Arena, but it won't be imploded in one fell swoop - it'll be disassembled piece-by-piece, starting this July.
This is the same group that was contracted to take down the Pontiac Silverdome back in 2017. I dragged my butt outta bed on a Sunday to see that... and was a tad disappointed. But hey, things happen.
The Joe will be a very different story. The insides have been stripped down and items such as seats have been sold as memorabilia and, in the next month or so, crews will start taking it down from the inside out, starting with ceiling beams.
You won't be able to see much of a difference if you're walking down Steve Yzerman Drive until they start taking down the exterior this summer. You might hear something, but that's about it.
I'm sad. I'm like a little boy in that way; I like the see things go BOOM.
