Should Fans Be So Close To Action?

We witnessed a horrific accident at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday and fortunately no one was killed. They had  what they thought were protective fences to shield them, yet still many were hurt. Is it time to back the crowds off a bit?

Some sports have fans almost on the floor, like basketball, and baseball may be back a little farther but a foul ball can still reach deep into the seats with a lot of speed. Both Hockey and football keep you farther back from the action.
