Scherzer Shuts Out Yanks, Tigers Win 2nd Straight
Max Scherzer pitched 8 shutout innings and got some offensive help from Magglio Ordonez as the Tigers blanked the Yankees 4-0. The win is the second straight for the Tigers, after suffering through a 7 game losing streak.
Magglio Ordonez had two hits for the second game in a row, and hit his first home run since July of last season with a 2-run shot to left in the third inning. Max Scherzer improved his record to 5-0 by striking out 9 Yankees and only allowing 4 hits in 8 innings. Miguel Cabrera and Jhonny Peralta drove in the other Tiger runs.
The Tigers and Yankees will wrap up their 4-game series at Comerica Park with an afternoon contest tomorrow. First pitch at 1:05 pm. Rick Porcello will be the starting pitcher for the Tigers. The team then begins a road trip which takes them to Toronto for 4 games and Minnesota for a pair.
With Ordonez starting to hit and Martinez back in the lineup and contributing, this team could make a good run. Let's hope they stay healthy.
