Health care workers across the country have done more than their fair share throughout the ongoing pandemic. Because of that The NFL is looking to honor health care workers by inviting them to attend the biggest game of the season.

According to a letter from Commissioner Goodell to to Rob Higgins, president of the host committee for the Super Bowl, the invitation is twofold. Goodell says it’s a way “to honor and thank health care workers for their extraordinary service during pandemic" as well as promote the importance of vaccinations and the wearing of masks in public.

In the letter Goodell states,

"We all know that over the past year, these frontline workers have put their own lives at risk to the benefit of society and we owe them our ongoing gratitude. We also know that they will remain essential for months to come to treat those who are ill and administer vaccines. We hope that in some small way, this initiative will inspire our country and recognize these true American heroes as we look forward to a better and healthier year."

This year has seen stadiums around the country with low to basically no attendance at all in response to COVID-19. Teams have also had to postpone several games due to team members testing positive for COVID-19.

This years Super Bowl LV will be played at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay on Sunday, February 7. The Weekend will headline the 2021 Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show.
